Understanding Body Language signals
To distinguish and understand whether a gesture is a pacifier or a gravity-defying behavior, or whether a gesture is negative or positive.
In my own words, there is a way to understand that:
1-Close (as an inward gesture)
And
2-Open (as an outward gesture)
1. Close Gestures are mostly negative and pacifiers which means they respond to negative feelings, discomfort, or negative stimuli.
Example: A person feeling tension puts his hands on his forehead.
Here the gesture is inward meaning towards himself which is the hand against his forehead, a gesture towards oneself you identify it as a closed gesture and you will know it is a negative or pacifying gesture.
2. Open Gestures are mostly positive and can be a gravity-defying behavior Which means they respond to positive feelings, comfort, and positive stimuli.
Example: When a person is happy to see someone they like he will spread his arms wide to hug.
Here the gesture is outward which is his arms raised on his side for a hug which is a gravity-defying behavior that is associated with positive feelings. In general, a gesture that is outward to oneself you identify as an open gesture related to positive feelings.
Of course, don't forget to consider the behavior's context.
