Observation Exercises #1

In this blog series, I will share some exercises to train observation by strengthening your observational memory and habits. The exercises are beneficial, and some of you may also find them fun. So without further ado, I present to you the first exercise of this series.

Exercise-1 The Memory Artist

For this series, I believe the best approach to describe it is through steps rather than a single paragraph and start it with a summary to help you all understand it the easy way.

Summary:

This exercise follows three simple steps: First, choose a scenery or image, whether from real life or a digital source. Next, carefully observe and memorize its details. Finally, without referencing the original, recreate it by either drawing or writing down what you remember, then compare your results to see how accurately you recalled the details.

STEP 1:

---Take a scenery:

First, get the scenery of any place like your room, or outdoor places, it could be anywhere and anything in real life or even just an image from your phone, laptop, etc.

STEP 2:

---Observe:

You would need to observe the details of that scenery or image as much as possible and memorize its details. [ To challenge yourself you can put a timer of 5 mins and then decrease the time as you get better]

STEP 3:

---Conclusion- Draw or write the details

After observing, set aside the image or move away from the scenery. And without looking at the scenery or image that you observed you need to draw or write the details from memory.

For drawing:

Get a pencil and a piece of paper and sketch the details of the scenery or image. Make it as accurate as possible from memory. [it's not necessary to draw it professionally or perfectly it's a sketch for training after all unless you prefer it, it's your wish ] Then compare your drawing to the scenery or image and check what things you remembered and what you didn't and if it wrong or accurate.

For writing:

Write down the details from memory like its placement, color, etc

it's very simple and then compare it to the image or scenery. Check what you got right, wrong , or missed out.

This simple yet powerful practice improves your ability to observe and recall information more accurately. Take these methods to improve your attention to detail, visual memory, and analytical thinking.
