Observation (Introduction)
What is observation?
It is backbone of deduction as it is the very first step to start deducing. Observation is the action or process of closely observing or paying attention, or to monitor something, to Notice.
It also means:
- Inspection
- Attention
- Study
- Monitoring
- examining
'Observing' is not the same as seeing. Seeing is one part of it. Seeing is just looking around without paying attention to them. As for observation, you observe and pay attention actively to something to gather information of it.
For Example:
Imagine walking down the street and seeing a person in front of you. You notice he’s holding keys in his right hand.
By observing the keys, you might determine what type they are—a house key or a car key. If it’s a car key, you can deduce that the person owns a car and likely drives.
By paying attention to where he’s heading, you could even figure out which car is his, if he approaches one.
Now consider another scenario:
you see a woman in a white uniform standing by the road. By noticing her attire, you might recognize it as a nurse’s uniform and deduce that she’s a nurse. You can then observe her actions—whether she’s standing still, waiting, or looking around to cross the road.

Now you would understand how observation starts deduction,
and how observing and paying attention to the world could tell much than just seeing.
